BiH House of Peoples Chair: There are no grounds for me being blacklisted by US

The Chairman of Bosnia’s House of Peoples, Nikola Spiric, said on Wednesday that he does not know any more details regarding him being blacklisted by the US than anyone else and that a parliamentary initiative to ask the US for information about it politically motivated.

The US State Department said in September 2018 that it banned Spiric and members of his immediate family from entering the US over Spiric's alleged “involvement in significant corruption.”

Spiric is the Vice-President of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), the party in power in Bosnia’s Serb-dominated semi-autonomous Republika Srpska (RS) entity.

Bosnia’s House of Representatives recently adopted an initiative to ask the US for information about him being blacklisted.

He, however, said he knows about it just as much as anyone else, from the media.

“There is no state institution that I am not ready to go to and answer questions,” he said.

He said he would be willing to answer to any US or BiH institution, but that nobody is asking him to do so.

This is probably because those institutions know there are no grounds for him being blacklisted, he said.

However, there are those who are trying to create grounds for it, he argued, explaining that since the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement was signed, “there are more than 110 individuals, several businesses and political parties blacklisted” but that the request only refers to him, not to all those other cases.

Spiric also said that he does not know whether anyone has ever been removed from the list and that some that are on it have already passed away.
