The BiH Prosecutor's Office announced Wednesday that the acting prosecutor in the case known as "Icon" is undertaking intensive activities on gathering evidence and examining witnesses.
“A number of witnesses were questioned, including the BiH ambassador to Russia, and a request for international legal assistance was sent to competent institutions. In this case, further action will be taken to establish all the facts and gather evidence. At the same time, we are informing the public that the BIH Prosecutor's Office received a request for a meeting between the Chief Prosecutor and the Ambassador of Ukraine to Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday, January 19,” the Prosecutor's Office said.
They added they could not provide any further information which could threaten the investigation.
Earlier the prosecution told N1 they would question all the actors in the said case, including all three members of Bosnia’s Presidency.
The case “Icon” was made after Bosnia’s Serb Presidency Chairman Milorad Dodik presented a 300-year-old Orthodox icon to the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during his December visit to Sarajevo. The icon contains a seal stating it belongs to Ukraine and the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reacted stating it is part of their cultural heritage.
Since then the Russian Foreign Minister returned the icon via the BiH Ambassador to the Russian Federation who never declared he received it nor that he imported it back to Bosnia, before announcing he returned it to Dodik.
