On Wednesday, September 25, the Municipal Court in Sarajevo scheduled the sale of BHRT's real estate, following a lawsuit filed by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) over a debt totalling 16 million Bosnian marks (some €8 million), including interest. According to a court expert's assessment, the value of BHRT's property, which includes land and buildings, is estimated at 160 million marks (around €80 million), as announced by BHRT's Board of Directors.
“A significant portion of the property set for sale is registered as state-owned, which was temporarily exempt from legal transactions by the decision of the High Representative. Despite this, the Municipal Court has ordered the sale of the property through public auction. This action not only threatens state property but could also signal the potential collapse of BHRT as a public broadcaster that serves all of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” the BHRT Board of Directors stated.
The management urged judicial and state institutions to find a legal solution to delay the auction and address BHRT's debt to the EBU, thereby preventing the loss of both state and BHRT assets. Due to unresolved funding issues, BHRT is unable to meet its financial obligations to the EBU from its current revenues.
