Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Civil Affairs Minister Dubravka Bosnjak attended the annual Eurotransplant meeting in the Netherlands on October 10 and 11. This was the first time a Bosnian delegation participated in the event, which gathered representatives from eight Eurotransplant member countries and leading experts in transplantation medicine.
At the meeting, Bosnia was introduced as a potential new member of Eurotransplant. The Ministry presented the country's current state of organ transplantation and plans to advance in this field, aiming for full membership.
Bosnjak met with Eurotransplant leaders to discuss the steps Bosnia needs to take and the potential for cooperation with member countries before full membership is achieved. Eurotransplant leadership expressed support for Bosnia’s progress and readiness to enhance cooperation.
Full membership would improve Bosnia's access to organ donors, speeding up transplant procedures and increasing the chances of saving lives. The network's 2023 report noted that 6,815 organs were transplanted, saving 6,008 lives, and highlighted the importance of international cooperation in optimizing donor-recipient matching.
