Bosnia and Herzegovina will once again skip the participation in the Eurovision Song Contest due to financial problems.
The Eurovision Song Contest's official website unveiled on Wednesday the list of 41 countries participants of the 66th Eurosong, which include two returnees – Montenegro and Armenia, both coming back after their last performances in Tel Aviv in 2019.
Due to the debts towards the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), Bosnia and Herzegovina will not be represented in the competition and is besides Slovakia the only European country not participating in Eurosong 2022.
The organisers said this would be a special year for the Norwegian broadcaster NRK, which celebrates the 60th Eurovision entry in February 2022, as well as the year of the 300th performance of the Big Five – a song from one of either France, Germany, Italy, Spain or United Kingdom.
“We are so excited that we once again have over 40 broadcasters competing to win the iconic Eurovision trophy in Turin next May. The team from Rai are working hard on preparations to welcome all the delegations to a new Host City and ensuring the Eurovision Song Contest will provide the excitement and state-of-the-art spectacle expected by nearly 200 million viewers,” said Martin Osterdahl, executive supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Italy will host the event for the third time, after organising the contest in Naples in 1965 and Rome in 1991.
Bosnia and Herzegovina's last participation was in 2016 and the country was represented by Dalal, Deen, Ana Rucner and Jala. Prior to that, the country skipped three years in Eurosong also due to financial problems.
