Mostar-Duvno Bishop and Apostolic Administrator of the Trebinje-Mrkan Diocese, Petar Palic, shared a joint Christmas message from the Bishops' Conference of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BK BiH), highlighting the enduring significance of Christmas as a beacon of hope and light in challenging times.

The message, jointly issued by Archbishop and Metropolitan of Vrhbosna Tomo Vuksic, Banja Luka Bishop Franjo Komarica, and Bishop Palic, emphasized that Christmas is one of the most cherished Christian holidays, offering joy and anticipation to all.

“Children look forward to receiving gifts, while adults often cherish the opportunity for family gatherings and rest. Even those who are not Christians find reasons to celebrate,” the bishops stated.

Reflecting on global challenges, the message noted the pervasive news of war in the Holy Land and Ukraine, the migrant crisis, and economic instability, which create significant hardships for many. Bishop Palic also pointed to threats to human dignity, including risks to unborn life and a lack of respect for the elderly.

“In a world that often feels dark, we might question what there is to celebrate. Yet, Christmas reminds us that God has answered the cries of every wounded heart longing for redemption,” Palic said, urging people to find hope in the birth of Christ.

The bishops reflected on the humility and obedience of Mary, who embraced God’s will amidst uncertainty, and the profound act of God taking on human form in Jesus. They emphasized that Christmas calls for a renewed commitment to reconciliation, dignity, and the fullness of life.

Bishop Palic highlighted the themes of “light” and “hope” that permeate Christmas liturgies, encouraging prayers for God’s light to shine in all aspects of life and dispel darkness. “Light comforts us, guides us, and helps us see the good around us, even in challenging times,” he said, acknowledging the daily acts of generosity and kindness in communities, parishes, schools, and workplaces.

The bishop urged gratitude for Christ’s incarnation and called for prayers that Christ’s light might illuminate paths toward a brighter future, bring peace to conflict-ridden areas, and inspire hope in hearts worldwide.

Finally, Bishop Palic extended Christmas greetings to all people of goodwill and wished for a New Year filled with blessings and God’s goodness.
