Bosnia Grand Mufti Kavazovic delivers Eid message of peace and resilience amid global turmoil

The central Eid al-Fitr ceremony of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina was held Friday at the Gazi Husrev-bey Mosque in Sarajevo. Grand Mufti Husein Kavazovic led the prayer and delivered the Eid khutbah, calling upon the faithful to remain composed and resist the "vortex of evil" during times of epic violence, suffering, and division.

In his address, Kavazovic emphasized that hearts must remain with those who suffer most, noting that as a small community, believers should not fear evil but must actively care for one another. He warned of the serious threats posed by religious fanaticism and Zionism, describing them as blind forces of power and hatred that destroy civilizations. Despite these challenges, he expressed hope that healthy hearts committed to love and brotherhood would prevail, remarking that a new dawn follows every dark night.
The Grand Mufti defined the mission of the faithful as a constant competition in doing good and using brotherly and sisterly love to wipe away the tears of the unfortunate. Citing the Quran, he reminded the congregation that those who believe in God and the Last Day and perform good deeds, whether they are Muslims, Jews, Sabaeans, or Christians, need not fear or grieve. He urged the community to preserve their faith and dignity, and to ensure that hatred does not poison their spirit.
The message further highlighted the importance of the family as a safe oasis and the jama'at as a foundation of brotherhood. Kavazovic described a healthy community as one where people communicate with respect despite differing opinions, show responsibility toward public goods, and care for the most vulnerable, including the sick and the poor. He stressed that a progressive society relies on reason and knowledge rather than emotion and populism.
Concluding his address, the Grand Mufti called for resistance against sin and evil first within oneself before demanding it of others. He extended his Eid greetings to Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Sandzak region, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, and the diaspora, praying for global peace, the silencing of weapons, and an end to suffering in the Middle East and worldwide.
