Bosnia police action against Serbian students triggers OSCE concern

The Mission highlighted that freedom of assembly and freedom of expression constitute basic human rights, emphasising that international standards require authorities to facilitate peaceful gatherings and address public order concerns through the least restrictive and proportionate means necessary in a democratic society.

"Freedom of peaceful assembly and freedom of expression are fundamental human rights," the OSCE Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina stated, clarifying that these rights apply to all individuals within the state's jurisdiction, regardless of nationality or citizenship status.

Calling on all Bosnian authorities to adhere to these commitments, the Mission stressed that any response must remain proportionate. The organization further urged swift investigations into any reported attacks against students organizing or participating in peaceful gatherings, demanding that perpetrators be held accountable through appropriate legal channels while confirming it will continue monitoring the situation.
