Serbia spent 2.87 billion dollars on weapons and military equipment from 2014 to 2023, according to Serbian public broadcaster RTS.

Last year alone, Serbia spent one billion and 510 million dollars on defense, which is the largest amount in the country's recent history, and which amounts to two percent of GDP.

The Serbian Army tripled its military budget in the period from 2014 to 2023.

From 2014 to 2023, Serbia spent a total of about 2 billion and 870 million dollars on the procurement of weapons. This amount does not include Mig-29 planes, T-72B1MS tanks and BRDM-2MS armoured vehicles donated to Serbia by Russia.

Romania and Hungary buy the most weapons in the region, and they have increased their military budgets the most. These two countries are followed by Serbia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Albania, North Macedonia and Montenegro.

The last is Bosnia and Herzegovina with only 15 million dollars of purchased weapons, RTS reported.
