Bosnian middle-distance runner Amel Tuka eclipsed the national indoor record in the 800m race on Wednesday during the World Athletics Indoor Tour in Madrid, finishing the race in 1:45:95.

This is also the new Balkan 800m indoor record for men.

Tuka came in the second, just after Spain's Marciano Garcia who finished in 1:45:66, while French Pierre-Ambroise Bosse had the same time as the Bosnian.

Prior to the race, Tuka said he would try to beat the record, adding that this would be his last test before the European Athletics Indoor Championship.

“I rarely make such announcements but I feel good and I hope the feeling and my legs won't let me down. My head certainly won't…,” he wrote on Facebook a day before the race.
