Bosnia's best cross-country and mountain bike cyclist, Lejla Tanovic, was the best cyclist among women at this year's Balkan MTB Championship, winning the title for the fifth straight time.
“I had a great wish to defend the Balkan title at home, in Bihac (Bosnia) and I am really happy that I achieved my goal. The route was exceptional and technically very demanding, which was good for me,” said Tanovic, speaking after the victory at the Balkan championship, which took place in the Bosnian northwestern town Bihac.
Tanovic was followed by two Greek cyclists, Aikaterina Eleftheriadou and Maria Karousou Eirini.
Her coach, Amar Njemcevic, said this was one of Tanovic's “most mature” performances, with no mistake.
“She took the lead from the beginning and after the third round she increased the tempo and took the victory. Organisers did a great job and proved that cycling in Bosnia and Herzegovina has a bright future,” he added.
