"At the end of last year, the Prosecutor's Office of BiH sent a letter to a prosecutor and the prosecution office in the Republic of Italy. Contact has also been made with the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) in The Hague to verify these allegations," the Prosecutor's Office of BiH stated for Fena.
In early November of last year, Italian media reported that the prosecution in Milan had opened an investigation based on a report filed by writer and journalist Ezio Gavazzeni. Gavazzeni claims that certain individuals paid to visit the positions of the Army of Republika Srpska during the Siege of Sarajevo to target and shoot at civilians with sniper rifles.
During the nearly four-year Siege of Sarajevo, data from victims' associations and rulings from international courts indicate that every tenth child killed was a victim of sniper fire, while more than 14,000 children were wounded.
In its final judgments against senior officials of the Republika Srpska, the Hague Tribunal concluded that the sniper campaign was specifically designed to terrorize the civilian population of Sarajevo.
