In an interview with FENA, Denis Becirovic, a member of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Presidency, stated that during his official visit to London, he met with senior UK officials to discuss deepening economic, military, and other forms of cooperation, announcing significant upcoming steps in these areas.
Becirovic expressed his satisfaction with the outcomes of the visit to what he described as one of the world's leading powers and a country of great importance to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“In talks with British officials, I placed particular emphasis on strengthening economic, military, and other forms of cooperation. In that context, I believe we’ll see important new developments in the period ahead,” Becirovic said.
Among his various engagements, which included meetings with top British officials, ministers, prime ministers, members of Parliament in the House of Commons, and the Mayor of London, Becirovic warned that it would be extremely dangerous to underestimate the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, describing it as “very serious and requiring utmost caution.”
“I highlighted the crucial role of the United Kingdom and other strategic partners of BiH in providing robust support during these challenging times to two institutions that are vital to peace and stability: the Office of the High Representative (OHR) and the Constitutional Court of BiH,” he added.
He also stressed the importance of supporting an independent judiciary in Bosnia and Herzegovina and enhancing the capacity of the Armed Forces of BiH, offering a range of concrete proposals to deepen cooperation between the UK and BiH further.
Becirovic also met with members of the BiH diaspora and officially opened Bosnia’s Honorary Consulate in the United Kingdom, located in Birmingham, which he described as highly significant for the country.
He thanked everyone for the warm and friendly welcome in Birmingham, with special appreciation for Anes Ceric, Zaim Pasic, and all those who, as he emphasised, are tirelessly working to build stronger ties between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the UK and to support their homeland.
