Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Becirovic met with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock in Berlin to discuss bilateral relations and the current security and political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. Baerbock affirmed Germany's support for Bosnia's path to EU and NATO membership, condemning threats to Bosnia's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity as unacceptable.
Becirovic informed Baerbock in detail about the anti-Dayton and unconstitutional activities of leaders from the Bosnian entity Republika Srpska, emphasizing the need for strong cooperation between the international community and local authorities to stop separatist policies.
Becirovic highlighted the danger of “unauthorized interference by Serbia in the internal affairs of the sovereign state of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” referring to the recent “All-Serb Assembly” held by Serbia and Republika Srpska as the gravest attack on the Dayton Peace Agreement since 1995, and an assault on international law and EU values.
During the comprehensive and open discussion, Becirovic expressed gratitude for Germany's robust support for Bosnia and Herzegovina in its European and Euro-Atlantic integration processes. He underscored Germany's pivotal role in advocating for Bosnia's EU path, evidenced by the decision to open membership negotiations with the EU.
Minister Baerbock reiterated Germany's unwavering support for Bosnia and Herzegovina's full EU and NATO membership. She stressed that threats to Bosnia's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity are entirely unacceptable to Germany and the West. Additionally, she described the June 8 assembly in Belgrade as concerning and lacking support from Germany and the West.
Becirovic emphasized Germany's role as the EU's largest economic power and Bosnia's most important foreign trade partner, also highlighting the significant role of the diaspora in strengthening the friendly ties and cooperation between Bosnia and Germany.
