Bosnia's only representative at the Srpska Open tennis tournament Damir Dzumhur has beaten French veteran player Richard Gasquet 2:1 in sets, qualifying for the quarterfinal of the tournament.
Dzumhur entered the match much better than his opponent, immediately winning a break point. After losing his own serve, the Bosnian got a break again and won the set with result 6:4.
In the second set there was a drop in the game of the Bosnian tennis player. He lost serve twice, and the experienced French tennis player routinely brought the second set to an end and won it with 6:1 result. Dzumhur continued with a bad edition in the last set and lost his serve right at the beginning, and Gasquet confirmed the break and took the lead with 3:1.
But, Dzumhur raised the level of his play and very quickly reached an advantage of 3:4. He continued in the same rhythm and after that break settled the match in his favour.
Speaking at a press conference following the match, Dzumhur thanked the audience who, as he stressed, carried him throughout the third set with their support.
His next opponent will be Russian Andrey Rublev.
“It will be a very good experience, I missed these matches. Even if I lose, it is very important that I play matches like this and improve. He's in really good shape and I'll be glad to see where I'm at right now. Tomorrow is a match that will show me how much I can do and where I am. And this victory is very good, but again tomorrow is a big test for me,” said Dzumhur.
