Bosnia and Herzegovina's Foreign Minister, Elmedin Konakovic, has issued a formal protest note to Serbia regarding the presence of its top officials at the celebration of Republika Srpska Day, which has been deemed unconstitutional. The Foreign Ministry confirmed the move to N1.
The Serbian delegation at the event, marking January 9 as Republika Srpska Day, was led by Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic and Speaker of the Serbian Parliament Ana Brnabic.
Konakovic reminded Serbia of key rulings, including the decisions by the Constitutional Court of BiH on November 26, 2015, and March 29, 2019, as well as the Office of the High Representative’s (OHR) decision on July 1, 2023. These decisions declared the celebration of January 9 in violation of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Constitution.
Despite this, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic extended his congratulations on Republika Srpska’s controversial holiday.
“I wholeheartedly congratulate you on Republika Srpska Day, wishing prosperity and progress for all its citizens. The world is now on the brink of enormous and unprecedented changes that will reshape the current order in unimaginable ways. In the times ahead, Serbia will continue to stand firmly with Republika Srpska, despite the many trials and challenges before us,” Vucic wrote in his congratulatory message.
