The Grand Mufti of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Husein Kavazovic, received Selvija Novalic, the wife of former, convicted FBiH Prime Minister Fadil Novalic, in Sarajevo on Monday.
The Grand Mufti talked to Novalic, who informed him about the events “their family is going through in their struggle to prove their innocence, in the process that was and is being conducted against Fadil Novalic before the Bosnian judiciary, especially after the latest verdict of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” the Islamic Community said.
Kavazovic supported Novalic's family and their legal team in fighting for his rights, using all legally available means.
As reported in the press release, “he called on them to be patient and trust the judicial system of Bosnia and Herzegovina, despite all the challenges that are obvious, not only to the professional public but also to ordinary citizens.”
“We should all respect Mr Fadil Novalic's right to seek justice and a fair trial, as he respected the Court's verdict and reported to serve his sentence. This right should not be challenged by anyone, not even through the media lynching that we witnessed in the past. According to the announcement of the Constitutional Court, whose detailed decision is awaited, it is already obvious that Mr. Novalic's right to a fair trial has been violated. All processes must return to the legal framework as soon as possible to maintain the citizens’ trust in the judicial system,” Kavazovic said on this occasion.
The former prime minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) entity, Fadil Novalic, is once again at the centre of public attention following the decision of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, concerning the appeals filed in the “Ventilators” case. Apart from him, Fahrudin Solak, former director of the FBiH Civil Protection Agency, and Fikret Hodzic, director of the “F.H. Srebrena Malina” company appealed to the Court. While Hodzic's appeal was fully accepted, the appeals of Novalic and Solak were partially accepted.
However, the reaction of the Islamic Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina surprised everyone, precisely, because countless statements from this religious institution could be heard previously saying that they will not interfere in the political and judicial system of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
