Bosnia’s Islamic Community announces official schedule for Eid al-Fitr 2026

According to the calendar of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the first day of Eid al-Fitr (Ramazanski bajram) 1447 AH, corresponding to 2026, will be observed on Friday, March 20.

The central Eid prayer at the Gazi Husrev-bey Mosque in Sarajevo is scheduled for 6:29 am. The Eid sermon will be delivered by the Grand Mufti of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Husein-ef. Kavazovic. The morning prayer will precede this at 5:15 am.

The central Eid ceremony organized by the Islamic Community in BiH will begin at 5:45 am and will be broadcast live on BHT1 and BIR Television. Following the prayer, the traditional Eid greetings with Reis-ul-ulema Kavazovic will take place from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at the IC administrative building in Sarajevo’s Kovaci neighbourhood.

The second day of Eid al-Fitr is traditionally observed by the Islamic Community as the Day of the Martyrs. The central commemorative program will be held at the Kovaci Martyr's Memorial Cemetery in Sarajevo, starting at 10:00 am.

The program includes delegations paying their respects and laying flowers at the central plateau and at the grave of the first President of the Presidency of BiH, Alija Izetbegovic. This will be followed at 10:30 am by a religious service organized by the Military Muftis, during which the Yasin and short Quranic surahs will be recited, with a final prayer offered by the Deputy Reis-ul-ulema, Enes Ljevakovic. The ceremony will conclude with an address by Reis-ul-ulema Kavazovic.
