Bosnia’s logistics sector on brink of collapse: Nationwide border blockades set for March 12

The Logistics Consortium of Bosnia and Herzegovina has activated its crisis plenum following a high-stakes meeting in Matuzici near Doboj. Industry leaders warned that unless a concrete solution is reached by March 10 regarding the stay of professional drivers within the European Union, a total blockade of all Bosnian border crossings will commence on March 12.

Representatives emphasize that this is an existential struggle rather than a political one. They have submitted formal demands to the Presidency of BiH, the Council of Ministers, and entity governments, calling for an immediate moratorium on restrictive EU residency rules for cabin crew. Additionally, the sector is seeking a monthly financial subsidy ranging from 21 million Bosnian marks (approximately €10.74 million) to 30 million marks (approximately €15.34 million) to compensate for losses incurred due to EU market limitations.
Data indicates that 36% of road transport capacity is already paralyzed, directly threatening exports, budget revenues, and jobs.
"When 36% of capacity stops, the entire economy stops," the Plenum stated. Demanding full transparency, the Consortium insists that all future negotiations with institutions be held publicly. With over a million citizens expected to be informed of the crisis by March 10, the Plenum maintains that protests remain a legitimate measure to protect every family's right to work.
