Over the past few days, the Islamic Community in BiH reported several attacks on mosques and Bosniak returnee homes in the village of Surmanci near Capljina, in the Herzegovina region, the perpetrators of which turned out to be two Croat teenagers.
The teenagers were reported by their fathers, who later brought them to the mosque to apologize. The fathers also said they would compensate for the damages made during the attacks.
All this was reported by the FTV crew who witnessed this positive example.
Enes Tikvesa's statement was interrupted by the arrival of two men who said they found the perpetrators and that they happen to be their teenage sons.
“I understood that the people of Surman here, my Croat brothers, did not do it, but children acted as children do. And my child can do something like this tomorrow. Parents brought their children and said what they said, I thank them and salute them forever. And they are my friends forever. They were and remained my friends. And that’s final,” said Tikvesa a resident from Surmanci.
Head imam Adem Suta reacted on behalf of Capljina Majlis. He stated that in the first attack, the windows were broken, and in the next attack, the windows and doors of the masjid were targeted with air rifles. Significant material damage was caused during the attack on the mosque.
He called on the domestic and international public to unequivocally condemn the aforementioned attacks and the competent police authorities to ensure the right to safety of Bosniaks and other residents in Surmanci.
