According to the CEC, the next step in the process is for the Commission to prepare a written response addressing the points raised in the appeal and submit it, along with the appeal itself, to the Appellate Division of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

At its August 6 session, the CEC adopted a decision to end Dodik’s mandate as president of Republika Srpska, a position he won in the 2022 General Elections as a candidate from the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats – Milorad Dodik list.

Dodik was convicted of failing to comply with the decisions of the High Representative, a criminal offence for which he was sentenced to one year in prison. He was also given a security measure barring him from holding the office for six years from the date the verdict became final.

Ruling on a request from Dodik’s defence to replace the prison sentence with a monetary fine, the Court of BiH, after considering the opinion of the Prosecutor’s Office, accepted the proposal, substituting the prison term with a fine in accordance with legal provisions.
