Chinese car surge: Imports to Bosnia skyrocket

Compared to the previous year, this represents an increase in the number of imported vehicles by approximately 87 percent. In 2024, 364 vehicles were imported with a total value of 7.08 million marks (approx. €3.62 million), while in 2023, the import of 191 vehicles from China was registered, worth 4.05 million marks (approx. €2.07 million).

Chinese brands, once criticized for lower quality and design, are now competing increasingly strongly with European and Korean rivals, relying not only on lower prices but also on the overall experience they offer to users.

Regarding the structure of these imports, in 2025, 605 new and 77 used vehicles were imported. In 2024, that ratio was 294 new and 70 used vehicles, and in 2023, 116 new and 75 used vehicles were imported from China.

The data clearly shows that the largest growth was recorded in the new vehicle segment, indicating a greater presence of Chinese manufacturers in the Bosnian market. During January of this year, 23 vehicles were imported, of which 20 were new and three were used. The ITA could not specify data regarding the exact models or brands of the vehicles imported from China.

The upward trend in vehicle imports from China is linked to more favourable prices, an expanding range of electric and hybrid models, and strengthening cooperation between Chinese manufacturers and local distributors. Experts point out that the continuation of such growth could significantly impact the structure of the domestic automobile market, which has been dominated by European brands until now.
