Kristo told the FENA news agency that the official notification to Bosnian institutions is expected next Wednesday, marking a significant step forward in the country’s EU integration process.
During the summit, Kristo met with EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos and several senior European officials to discuss new initiatives aimed at strengthening regional cooperation and economic connectivity.
Following the Commission’s confirmation, Kristo said the next steps include appointing a national coordinator and ratifying two key agreements - the Ratification Agreement and the Loan Agreement.
“EU representatives underlined the expectation that Bosnia and Herzegovina ratify both agreements so that we can move in step with other countries in the region in implementing this important project,” she said.
Four new initiatives within the EU Growth Plan were also presented in Tirana, including: a regional roaming roadmap, mechanisms to reduce costs and improve services through closer EU–Western Balkans cooperation, an initiative to establish an artificial intelligence factory and an industrial dialogue platform.
“These are all initiatives that contribute to the overall growth and development of EU member states,” Kristo noted.
Kristo also highlighted Bosnia and Herzegovina’s progress toward joining the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), noting that four Western Balkan countries have already completed the process and are benefiting from faster and cheaper cross-border transactions.
“We are currently preparing the pre-application, and next year we could submit the official application,” she said.
Kristo briefed EU officials on the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, stressing that the country is in a phase of political and institutional consolidation. She welcomed the recent adoption of the 2025 state budget, calling it a critical step for advancing reforms.
On Bosnia’s EU accession path, Kristo emphasised the urgency of adopting two key pieces of legislation and appointing a chief negotiator.
