A funeral service and burial of 16 Bosniak victims was held Wednesday at the Kamicani Memorial Center in Kozarac near Prijedor. The commemoration of July 20, the day of remembrance for the victims of Prijedor, was attended by the Chairman and member of the BiH Presidency, Sefik Dzaferovic and Zeljko Komsic, and the conceptual design of the memorial centre, which should be built soon, was also presented.

Nazif Horozovic from the organizing committee pointed out that it will be a lively space, suitable for cultural and sports events, which will send a message of peace to future generations: “Don't do it ever again, or let someone do it to you, live in harmony and dignity.”

In addition to what lies ahead, Horozovic told N1 of the suffering and efforts of the victims’ families.

“We even have body parts found in 1999 in today’s coffins. Imagine – the families who are here today, have been waiting for this day for 30 years to bury their loved ones. It is a big handicap for these families,” Horozovic pointed out.

Unfortunately, there are many families who are still waiting to say goodbye to their loved ones.
Nearly 600 victims are still missing.

A conceptual plan for a memorial complex on this site was also presented.

What the complex will encompass and offer will awaken special hope, Horozovic told N1.

“The memorial complex that will soon be built is something that will serve future generations. In the conceptual solution for the complex, it will be a memorial centre containing a stadium, a playground and a space for rest and cultural activities – that's why there is hope. It will be, not only a memorial centre, but a living space that will tell future generations: Don't do it ever again, or let someone do it to you, live in harmony and dignity, the way God gave you, in the beauty, you have in this region,” Nazif Horozovic said.

The youngest victim that was buried Wednesday was Samed (Haso) Jakupovic, who was only 19 when he was killed. He disappeared in the area of Kozarac in June 1992, and his remains were exhumed in the locality of Sivci in 1998. The oldest victim to be buried is Edhem (Abid) Kaltak. He was 65 at the time of his death.

The remains of 16 Prijedor victims were found in ten different locations.
