Sarajevo Canton’s (KS) Economy Minister, Adnan Delic, signed an Annex to the Concession Contract for the construction and use of the Wind Power Plant "Ivan Sedlo-Hadzici" with the director of the company "Suzlon Wind Energy BH," Samir Dzaferbegovic on Friday, making this the first wind farm to be built in the Sarajevo Canton, in 2021.
The total investment value of the project is some € 30 million. With its construction, the Canton will join the community of producers of energy from renewable sources.
As specified in the Annex to the Contract, the wind farm will have five 5 MW wind turbines. The concession for the construction and use was given for a period of 30 years, by a previously signed contract between the KS Government and this company.
“The construction of the wind farm should begin in August this year. We still have to do a study of the connection to the electricity network and explain how our wind farm will affect it, and obtain an energy and building permit. If everything goes as planned, the wind farm could be put into trial operation next year, and into official operation in 2023,” stated Dzaferbegovic.
Minister Delic pointed out that this is a very important project.
“It’s in our interest to produce energy based on renewable sources as much as possible, unlike fossil fuels, and especially coal, by which our country is still recognizable. Wind farms do not have a harmful impact on nature and the power of the energy they produce is much higher than that of hydropower plants. Thus, we’re protecting the environment, and through the collection of this type of concession, significant revenues will be generated for the Sarajevo Canton and the local community. This will also create new jobs,” said Minister Delic.
He pointed out that the Sarajevo Canton has all the predispositions to expand the production of energy from wind, and given the interest of investors, even to become a regional HUB for wind farms.
