“Our obligation is 30 percent of the capacity, 104 beds, and we have 127 beds taken now. We have no more room to receive anyone, we are full,” he said, adding that there are another 200 or 300 hospital beds in the canton and “if they gave us those beds, we would be happy.”

“The isolation ward is also full, with 50 beds,” Dr. Drljevic noted.

According to KS Health Minister, Haris Vranic, it is expected that the situation will only get worse as the weather improves.

“Hospital facilities and medical workers will be able to endure that. If our citizens have got tired of the measures, imagine what it is like for health workers who work 24 hours a day for a year,” he said.

The minister announced intensifies controls in order to ensure that the epidemiological measures are respected, especially in regard to public transportation.

However, he also announced that local authorities are considering completely reopening primary schools in KS, arguing that it was shown that children of this age are not a significant factor in the transmission of the virus and that the problem is rather with high schools students.

At a press conference on Thursday, Assistant to the Health Minister of Bosnia’s Federation (FBiH) entity, Goran Cerkez, urged authorities in the Sarajevo Canton to adopt stricter measures due to the drastic increase in new infections in the capital.
