Croatia has confirmed the first case of flurona, simultaneous infection with COVID-19 and influenza, which has been registered at the Andrija Stampar Teaching Institute of Public Health in Zagreb, the head of the Clinical Microbiology Department at the Institute, Jasmina Vranes, told HTV public television on Tuesday.
Vraneš said that about 50 per cent of samples analysed on Monday were positive for COVID-19, up from 30 per cent a week ago.
She said that cases of people getting COVID three times were rare, adding that there were also cases of people contracting this disease twice even though they had been vaccinated.
Vraneš said that the situation with the Omicron variant of the coronavirus was being monitored because this variant spreads faster and the period of incubation is much shorter, from five to seven days. She said that 20 to 30 per cent of the people who have been in contact with people coming from countries where this variant is predominant have been found to be infected with the Omicron variant.
