Croatian FM raises issue of Serbia's handling of Mladic funeral at Riga conference

On 10 -11 September, the National History Museum of Latvia is hosting the largest annual security and foreign policy forum in the Nordic region called "The Rīga Conference 2026".

Croatia's foreign minister is attending the event, and ahead of the official start of the conference, Grlic Radman participated in a working dinner with his counterparts from Latvia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland and Poland.

Grlic Radman raised the issue of Mladic's glorification on that occasion.

Croatia strongly supports the Western Balkans' EU perspective, he told the  Riga conference, stressing the importance of Bosnia and Herzegovina's European future, equal rights for its three constituent peoples and legitimate political representation for Croats, according to a press release issued by the Croatian foreign ministry.

He said EU enlargement was a strategic investment in a secure and prosperous Europe.

Grlic Radman also called for a coordinated European response to intensified Russian hybrid and destabilising activities and stronger EU-NATO cooperation.

On the Middle East, he stressed the importance of maintaining safe and free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz in line with international law, and of diplomacy and dialogue in resolving regional crises.

The Croatian minister and his Latvian interlocutors discussed the importance of transport, energy and digital links between the Baltic and Adriatic regions, as well as cooperation to boost energy resilience and Europe's defence industry, the Croatian ministry said.
