According to Croatian MEP, Zeljana Zovko, the strongest Bosniak party in BiH, the Party of Democratic Action, is mainly to blame for the failure to reach an agreement on electoral reform in Bosnia. She also criticised Croatia’s President for his “populist” statements.
“BiH must finally find the strength and Bosniak parties must find a voice of reason in order to try to pass this election law through the Parliament and the House of Peoples, where all three peoples can be satisfied,” she said, arguing that those who want to have another person represent Bosniak interests in the Presidency are trying to “create hysteria” among the Bosniak electorate.
Zovko argued that this is currently the case of Zeljko Komsic, the Bosnian Croat member of the tripartite Presidency who was elected mainly thanks to Bosniak votes and, according to Zovko, “serves” the SDA.
“Komsic has never expressed any inclination to help cities where Croats are in the majority,” she said.
Zovko stressed that the SDA is to blame for a lack of an agreement on electoral reform and that there are other Bosniak parties in the country that have “a more realistic view” on the issue and greater influence among the Bosniak population, but are also “willing to compromise.”
Then you have a situation where someone says that he will stop the elections or that Ukraine's candidacy in the EU before BiH enters. That is unrealistic, “she said.
Zovko also strongly criticised Croatian President, Zoran Milanovic, saying that he is making “populist” statements that only serve divisions among Bosnian Croats.
Milanovic previously said previously that he would work toward preventing the 2022 General Elections in Bosnia if the country fails to amend its election law until October.
Zovko pointed out that nobody in Croatia has the power to stop elections in BiH.
