Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Presidency Chair Zeljka Cvijanovic met on Tuesday in Brussels with Antonio Costa, the newly appointed President of the European Council. Their discussions focused on the progress made so far and the necessary next steps for BiH to advance on its path to European integration.
Cvijanovic reaffirmed her dedication to fulfilling Bosnia and Herzegovina’s obligations, stressing that this must be achieved through the agreement and cooperation of domestic representatives, supported by a pragmatic approach from the European Union.
She underscored the importance of involving all levels of government in BiH in the European integration process, in line with the country’s constitutional structure and the principles of the agreed coordination mechanism.
Highlighting concerns about foreign involvement, Cvijanovic stated that it is unacceptable for any individual acting outside the framework of the Dayton Agreement, the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and European legal standards to override democratically elected institutions. She voiced dissatisfaction with certain foreign interventions that she believes undermine agreements reached by domestic political actors.
Cvijanovic also congratulated Costa on his new role and wished him success in carrying out his responsibilities.
