Day five concludes: New gathering in Sarajevo announced for tomorrow

The fifth consecutive day of demonstrations in the Bosnian capital has officially concluded, with organizers immediately announcing a new mass gathering for tomorrow at noon. Citizens of Sarajevo remained resolute, gathering in front of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina to express their mounting dissatisfaction following the tragic tram accident that resulted in the death of young artist Erdoan Morankic and left Ella Jovanovic with life-altering injuries.

Despite the city being blanketed by snow this morning and weather forecasts predicting a mix of rain and sleet throughout the day, the adverse conditions failed to deter the demonstrators. This persistence honours the vow made during yesterday’s rally: that no weather conditions would be severe enough to silence the call for justice.
Institutional collapse and the path to reform
The sustained pressure from the streets has already triggered a significant political vacuum in the Sarajevo Canton. Following the resignation of Prime Minister Nihad Uk on Sunday, which led to the dissolution of the entire Cantonal Government, the director of the public transport company (KJKP GRAS), Senad Mujagic, also stepped down on Monday.
These resignations are viewed by the public as a direct consequence of the protesters' insistence on systemic accountability for the historical neglect of the city’s transit infrastructure. In a move to address immediate safety concerns, the Minister of Transport in technical mandate, Adnan Steta, confirmed on Tuesday that all vintage Czech-made trams have been indefinitely withdrawn from the tracks. He provided a public guarantee that these vehicles will remain grounded until comprehensive technical audits and services are performed, with the final safety reports to be made available for public scrutiny.
Four immutable demands
As the crowds dispersed this evening, the informal student groups and citizens behind the initiatives "hocel.ta.promjena" and "pravda.promjena.ba" reaffirmed that their presence on the streets will remain a constant until the following four conditions are fully realized:
- Full Transparency: The immediate publication of all historical maintenance logs for the fleet and the release of onboard video surveillance from the fatal accident.
- Guaranteed Vehicle Safety: The permanent decommissioning of all outdated or questionable trams until rigorous safety certifications are secured.
- Total Accountability: Formal, written resignations from every official within the decision-making chain responsible for the current state of public safety.
- A Systemic Solution: The implementation of a long-term strategy for a modern, reliable, and secure transportation network designed to prevent future loss of life.
