Day of mourning in FBiH, officials express condolences over death of 8 youths

Bosnian Croat Presidency member Zeljko Komsic asked the Government to declare a day of mourning in BIH the death of eight teenagers in the south-Bosnian city of Posusje who were found dead after celebrating the New Year's Eve together.

“We were devastated by this sad news of the deaths of young people, which makes the tragedy even more painful. I extend my deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims and sympathize with their pain. I call on the Council of Ministers of BiH to declare a day of mourning in the whole of BiH,” said Komsic.

The leader of the strongest Bosnian party, Croat Democratic Union (HDZ BiH) Dragan Covic also expressed his condolences for the eight youths.

“Deeply affected by the great tragedy, the sad and painful news of the unfortunate death of eight young people from Posusje, we hereby express our condolences to the families of the deceased girls and boys. We can hardly find the right words of comfort in this unprecedented tragedy and dark day for the entire country. I hereby express my deepest condolences with sincere compassion for your pain and common prayer for their souls to find their peace and serenity,” Covic said.

Prime minister Fadil Novalic also sent the telegram with condolences on behalf of the Federation (FBiH) entity government to the families of the teenagers.

We received the news of this immeasurable tragedy with great sadness. We feel with the grieving families in these difficult moments. On behalf of the Government of the Federation entity and my own behalf, I extend our deepest sympathies to the families,” Novalic wrote.

The FBiH Government declared January 4 as the Day of Mourning over the tragic death of eight young lives in Posusje.

The youths are suspected to have died of asphyxiation by exhaust gas from the power generator.
