A negative rate of natural population growth was recorded across all ten cantons of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) entity in February this year. Official figures indicate a deepening demographic challenge, with the FBiH failing to see positive growth in any administrative region during the period.

Statistical data for the month confirms that 1,168 live births were registered against 1,633 deaths. Consequently, the natural population growth was recorded at -465, resulting in a vital index of 72. Regarding social trends, the FBiH Statistics Institute reported that 426 marriages were solemnised in February, while 110 divorces were officially recorded.

This downward trajectory follows a trend established in the previous year, during which natural growth remained negative in nine cantons, with only the West Herzegovina Canton recording a positive surplus.

The cumulative data for 2025 further highlights the scale of the decline. Throughout last year, a total of 15,387 children were born in the Federation of BiH, while 20,541 deaths were registered over the same period. This led to an annual natural population decline of 5,154.
