Montenegro’s President Milo Djukanovic told the UN General Assembly that geopolitical interests are in conflict over the Western Balkans.
He warned that the region is in danger of being destabilized and its European perspective limited, the Montenegrin state TV (RTCG) reported.
Djukanovic said the integration of Western Balkan society into its natural European environment had slowed down and added that trust in European values was being undermined.
The Montenegrin President said that the development of the region was lagging behind and that room had been made to restore destructive theories according to which the region cannot be multi-ethnic or multi-confessional, especially in Bosnia-Herzegovina. He said that those theories are being used as an alibi to resume the nationalist projects which led to the wars of the 1990s.
Djukanovic said that Montenegro was committed to opposing those dangerous ideas.
