The president of BiH's Republika Srpska (RS) entity, Milorad Dodik, stated that he sees in the message from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio about his undermining of the institutions as a "relic of the former U.S. administration of Joe Biden," adding that RS will not back down from its policies.
Dodik emphasized that the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina is not threatened by the actions of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska and Milorad Dodik, but by anti-Dayton, unconstitutional acts.
"When he (Rubio) says that he is concerned about the future of BiH, we are concerned as well," Dodik said to reporters in Trebinje, commenting on the statement by the U.S. Secretary of State.
He pointed out that concern about the position of BiH is something that was also heard from the administration of former U.S. President Biden.
"This is part of the concept of creating new states, new nations, which we are convinced has passed. And (newly elected U.S. President Donald) Trump has repeatedly said that they will not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, that they are abandoning the concept of building foreign states and nations, that they will not influence that, and suddenly now this," Dodik noted.
He pointed out that this could only be "part of some lobbying that is recognized in the legacies of Biden's administration."
"We know that Trump's people have not yet penetrated all the pores. I'm glad Rubio knows about me, that's nice, even if he's talking negatively. In any case, there are many mistakes here, the Secretary of State doesn't have time, and I understand that," Dodik said.
According to him, if Rubio truly thinks this way, it is regrettable that they continue to side with one side in BiH that is "against Christian communities here in BiH and are motivated to maintain Muslim dominance."
"In that regard, their concern for the future of BiH is truly justified," Dodik added.
He stated that RS will not back down from its policies.
"He (Rubio) is wrong when he claims that. It would be nice if he read what is happening here instead of just adopting the false narratives created during Biden's administration," Dodik said.
According to him, if U.S. President Donald Trump says that Biden's administration is the worst the U.S. has ever had in history, one can imagine what kind of mess they have caused in BiH.
"And now someone, even if it is the Secretary of State, accepts that this mess is something that is fine, that is now another story. We will have to enter into talks with our American friends. I still think that Rubio is a friend of everyone here in BiH, including us, and that he has fallen for pro-Bosnian lobbyists who lobbied for something like this," Dodik said.
He said that the entity had "already had such moments."
"We've had them before, we had threats, we had all kinds of things. We had three years with an ambassador who did everything he could to harm Republika Srpska, and we cannot give up on our goals and policies, no matter who is on the other side, even if it is Rubio," Dodik emphasized.
He asked everyone who wants to maintain their position here and express their views anywhere in the world to listen to the other side as well.
"And they cannot decide for us, even if it is America, they need to decide with us here about these spaces if they want to have a say. I understood that Trump does not want to do that," Dodik said.
He pointed out that Trump, in several statements, said that the time for their intervention had passed.
"And what is this? Why has Mr. Rubio decided to intervene so harshly? What is he saving here? The mess. The fact that a German came, imposed a law, and opened an unprecedented political crisis. Now, because Rubio is writing something, are we supposed to say 'sorry, Schmidt is right'? He is not right," Dodik asserted.
"With full respect for the authority of the Secretary of State, with full respect for the U.S., and our perception of them as friends, we must say that he is wrong," Dodik concluded.
