Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik has stated that Republika Srpska, the Serb entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, has the right to unite with Serbia based on the same logic by which US President-elect Donald Trump claims America's right to Greenland.
In an interview with the Balkan branch of the Russian propaganda television network Russia Today (RT Balkan), headquartered in Belgrade, Dodik expressed loyalty to Russian President Vladimir Putin while taking the opportunity to raise the issue of borders in Europe and once again promote his long-standing idea of Republika Srpska seceding from Bosnia and Herzegovina to unite with Serbia.
He argued that existing borders are not “sacrosanct” and referred to how the states that emerged from the former Yugoslavia were recognised as independent.
“If the Americans say that what happened with the Slovenes and Croats was not secession but a reality on the ground, then was Republika Srpska not also a reality on the ground? Why did you return us to this nonsense called Bosnia and Herzegovina? If Greenland and Canada are possible, if East and West Germany could unite, then why can’t Republika Srpska join Serbia?” Dodik said, adding that Russia also has a right to Ukraine.
According to the Bosnian Serb leader, if Putin had not invaded Ukraine, Russia would have been broken up into several smaller states, which multinational corporations would have then taken over.
“But they did not count on the fact that there is one Putin, who has the support of the people and enough determination,” Dodik concluded.
