Dodik names fmr head of Serbia's intelligence agency as RS Senator

The President of Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity Milorad Dodik appointed Serbia’s Aleksandar Vulin as a member of the RS Senate.

Vulin is the former director of the Security and Information Agency of Serbia (BIA), and before that, he was Serbia’s Minister of the Interior.

Senate members are appointed by the RS President from among prominent figures from public, scientific and cultural life who have public reputation and experience gained through knowledge, profession and activity, according to the Law on the Senate of the RS.

A senator is appointed for seven years, with the possibility of receiving another term. Senators also enjoy the immunity granted to deputies as guaranteed by the RS Constitution.

The Senate considers issues of particular importance for the political, ethnic, economic and cultural development of the Republika Srpska and gives opinions to the highest constitutional institutions on issues within their jurisdiction. The body has up to 55 members.
