The President of Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, Milorad Dodik, said that the RS “will make difficult political decisions” in the future, arguing that the entity is “being forced into declaring independence” due to constant pressures and attacks it experiences.

US Department of Treasury introduced new sanctions for the family of Milorad Dodik – his daughter Gorica and son Igor. According to the Department, sanctions were imposed on the “pro-Russian nationalist leader of the Bosnian Serbs” as well as other individuals and entities associated with him.

“Independence is a realistic alternative for our future life. Republika Srpska is free and has enough room for everyone, except for its enemies,” Dodik told reporters in Kozarska Dubica.

He stated that “the USA is showing hostility towards the Republika Srpska” and that it is trying to blame him and his family for everything, “which they are imposing sanctions without having any evidence of any criminal activities”.

Dodik denied that his family is involved in corruption, saying that the son of the US president is involved in in such activities. He said he is proud of his son and insisted that the US should name the opposition politicians who were, according to the allegations, brined by Igor Dodik.

“In the political sense, when the Americans first imposed sanctions on me, since then I live better and I have no problem communicating with anyone, but I don't want to communicate with the Americans. If the Americans had any evidence against Milorad Dodik regarding the crimes they have been talking about for years, do you think I would be standing here in front of you?”, he asked.

Commenting on the sanctions, Dodiks said that he is convinced “that the people of Republika Srpska will not believe all these lies”.

According to him, the goal of the allegations is to remove people from power in the entity so that “the Americans could fulfill the promise made to Alija Izetbegovic that RS would be abolished and a unitary BiH would be created”.

“You can't expect us to applaud the American concept of the collapse of Republika Srpska”, said Dodik and stressed that he will be “the president of Republika Srpska as long as the people of want it, not based on the will of the US Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Michael Murphy or political Sarajevo”.

He stated that “Serbia has 49 percent of the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina” and called the line separation the two entities in the country a “border”, adding that the RS will “return the stolen competences” from the state level.

Dodik said that “the narrative of Sarajevo as a multi-ethnic city is not sustainable either, bearing in mind that many more Bosniaks are born in Novi Sad than Serbs are born in Sarajevo.”

“America has one only thing left, which is that it is the most powerful military power in the world. It is no longer the most powerful political or financial force. The USA is the most indebted country in the world, and we are constantly being lectured on how to live. You will not decide for us”, said Dodik.
