Speaking to the press in Banja Luka, the President of Bosnia’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity, Milorad Dodik, said that LGBTI community has no place in the RS and that they have islands they can go to and live there. He also touched upon the RS Government’s decision to cut ties with the US and British embassies, saying they did not cut ties with their countries.

Speaking about the newly proposed Law on non-governmental organizations and the Law on defamation, Dodik said that they will certainly be passed stressing that LGBTI activists will be banned from educational institutions.

“I think that it pollutes the public space and that it should be eliminated, I'm taking a stand now, we won't allow them to impose their values on us,” Dodik said.

“I’m still against those people, that is, against what they propagate, I have nothing against those people, they are free to do what they want in their private lives, suing me is no problem either,” Dodik said. “The same-sex marriage law is unacceptable to me, I can be against it. They have other places, islands, this is our way of life, [so they can] go there,” said Dodik.

The two laws caused fierce reactions from activists, associations, embassies and journalists, but the RS President did not address these reactions. Judging by all the recent events, he will persist in his intentions to violate a number of human rights and freedoms of citizens of Republika Srpska and BiH with these controversial laws.

Talking to the press, Dodik also touched on the American Ambassador and the relationship between the RS and the USA.

“We didn’t end cooperation with America, but with the American Embassy and the Ambassador. I don't listen to what the American ambassador has to say. Everything he said was absurd. I think he and the Embassy staff are against the Serb people. When he talks about defamation laws he talks about bodies that control the courts, and they control them. He tried to remedy the situation he caused himself. When he claims that the property belongs to Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is an attack on our ‘sovereignty’, the property belongs to the RS and will this remain so, whether the Ambassador likes it or not. We respect the American people and America, but we don’t respect such brokers. The property will not be on the agenda. The property belongs to us,” the RS President said.
