BiH tripartite Presidency member Milorad Dodik said that he will not back down from his recent political activities because of the possibility of the United States introducing sanctions against him, arguing that this represents the “powerlessness of the United States which thinks it is governing the world in this way” and “that time has passed.”
Speculations about sanctions against Dodik come in light of his efforts to roll back post-war reforms which led to the establishment of numerous state institutions in BiH and for Bosnia's Republika Srpska (RS) entity, where he is the leader of the ruling party, to create its own separate institutions.

Dodik argued that the problem and disorder in BiH were created by four foreigners – the High Representative who oversees the civilian implementation of the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement, and three foreign judges at the BiH Constitutional Court.
“As far as we are concerned, RS is interpreting the Constitution literally and is ready to act in accordance with the Constitution,” he said.
Dodik said that RS representatives will return to state institutions once “those arrogant foreigners who are now trying to bring order here in this way with various speculations remove the mess that Inzko made and enable BiH to function.”
He was referring to the law banning genocide denial in BiH which former High Representative, Valentin Inzko, imposed in the country in July.
As for the possibility of the United States introducing sanctions against him, Dodik said that this represents the “powerlessness of the United States which thinks it is governing the world in this way.”
“That time has passed,” he said, adding that he does not have a problem with sanctions as he is not “a coward” who will back down because “some of those who made careers in BiH have now returned to the political scene in America and now they want to do something.”
“Yes, America is big, powerful, no one disputes that, but some circumstances have changed,” he said.
Dodik also commented on the recent calls from Bakir Izetbegovic, the leader of the strongest Bosniak party in BiH, for NATO and EUFOR to reinforce their troops in the country, especially the Brcko District.
“I have no problem with anyone coming here, one hundred thousand NATO soldiers, and occupying this country,” Dodik said, adding, “but what is necessary to do before that is to get the consent of the competent authorities, and the competent authority for that is the Presidency.”
“As far as I know, I am still sitting in that Presidency and I will never give my consent to anyone; neither NATO nor Russian nor anyone else's troops come here,” he said.
