Bosnia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) ordered a recount of the ballots in the election of the president of BiH’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity due to "irregularities and mathematical illogicalities".

“The CEC held a meeting this morning where it considered remarks and objections to the course of the election process in the RS for the president and vice president of the RS. We had material evidence and video materials where we undoubtedly see that the process was contaminated so it was not possible to give the results of the election. The CEC has decided to issue an order: the CEC ex officio orders the main counting centre to open the bags and count the ballots again, including the ballots in Brcko District for the President of the RS”, said CEC President, Suad Arnautovic, following an emergency session of the institution on Monday.

According to the current election results, the leader of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), Milorad Dodik, won the election. However, opposition parties in the RS are demanding a recount, arguing that their candidate, Jelena Trivic, from the Party of Democratic Process, is the winner.

The election fraud allegations prompted thousands of citizens to protest in Banjaluka, the administrative centre of the RS, last week.
