Bosnia's public enterprise Elektroprivreda BiH, as the governing company, decided to temporarily suspend mining works in the Subsidiary Company Brown Coal Mine (RMU) Zenica, Nedzad Durakovic, the President of the "Raspotocje" plant trade union told Fena news agency.
Due to a months-long delay in salaries, the miners of that facility went on strike on March 6, of this year, and last week the Assessment of the situation in RMU Zenica was completed, which should answer as to whether it is necessary to profitably produce coal in Zenica.
“This kind of decision, which came into force today (Thursday), can be in force for a year at most. It does not mean that it will be in effect that long, that is, we expect that the fate of our employee will be known much earlier. During the duration of this decision, employees will be paid the minimum compensation prescribed by law. We don't know how much it will amount to,” Durakovic said.
He announced that by tomorrow or, Monday at the latest, the Zenica miners should receive their salaries and hot meal allowances for January and February. In May of last year, a decision was made to suspend work at the “Old Pit” plant, which should be definitively closed during this year.
Until then, Durakovic announces, the mining inspectorates will carry out mandatory inspections of the conditions in those two pits.
