Following BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik's visit to Moscow on Tuesday where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the EU Delegation to BiH said Wednesday they expect Bosnia to align its foreign and security policy to that of the EU and BiH leaders to take a clear stance in condemning Russian aggression in Ukraine.

“Russia’s unprovoked military aggression against Ukraine represents a gross violation of international law and fundamental human values, and undermines European and global security and stability. The European Union has passed wide-ranging and unprecedented sanctions in response to the invasion. These are aimed at imposing severe consequences on Russia for its actions by crippling the Kremlin’s ability to finance the war, imposing clear economic and political costs on Russia’s political elite responsible for the invasion,” the Delegation said.

They advised BIH authorities to align the country's policies to that of the EU as the country hopes to one day become an EU member state.

“As a country with a clear and credible EU perspective, which has been affirmed at the highest level, we expect Bosnia and Herzegovina to align its foreign, security and trade policies with those of the EU. The extent of this alignment is assessed as part of the EU accession process. Moreover, given the enormous suffering in Ukraine as a result of Russia’s war of aggression, we expect leaders in Bosnia and Herzegovina to take a clear moral stand and unequivocally condemn Russia’s actions, instead of cordially meeting with Russia’s head of state.”

Dodik is among the few politicians in Bosnia and Herzegovina who support the Russian president despite the numerous sanctions that were imposed on Russia after the invasion of Ukraine.
