Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency Member Denis Becirovic met with the Head of the European Union Delegation to BiH, Luigi Soreca, to discuss the importance of reforms on the country’s path to EU membership. The conversation highlighted the shared commitment to Bosnia’s European future, emphasizing reforms aimed at ensuring stability and progress for all citizens.
Becirovic reiterated that full EU and NATO membership remain Bosnia’s top foreign policy priorities, describing them as the best framework for long-term security and regional stability. He stressed the mutual benefits of EU enlargement for BiH, the Western Balkans, and the EU itself. Additionally, Becirovic called for zero tolerance toward individuals undermining the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Ambassador Soreca reaffirmed the EU's commitment to strengthening its partnership with Bosnia. He highlighted the European Council’s decision to open accession negotiations with BiH as a strong impetus for the country’s reform processes. According to Soreca, EU membership would contribute to the functionality of BiH’s institutions, encouraging the government to capitalize on this momentum.
Both parties agreed on the necessity of aligning domestic legislation with European standards and implementing key reforms to strengthen democratic institutions and the rule of law. They emphasized that the EU’s increased engagement could stimulate processes that ensure a better quality of life for citizens and address the country’s youth emigration challenges.
Becirovic also noted the progress BiH has made on its EU path, which has been recognized by EU institutions. He expressed optimism that the coming months would bring significant advancements toward full membership, wishing Ambassador Soreca continued success in his mission.
In a separate meeting, BiH Presidency Chair Zeljka Cvijanovic also held talks with Soreca in her office, focusing on the EU integration process, institutional activities at all levels of government, and reasons for recent stagnation.
Cvijanovic underlined the importance of respecting the constitutional roles of various levels of government and stressed the need for a balanced EU approach toward all entities within Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Both meetings underscored the urgency of maintaining reform momentum and fostering closer ties with the EU to secure Bosnia and Herzegovina’s future within the European community.
