Both the Head of the EU Delegation to BiH and the US Embassy praised the appointment of Constitutional Court judges in Bosnia’s Federation (FBiH) entity as well as the State Chief Prosecutor on Thursday, saying that their appointment will improve the functioning of the country’s judiciary and its independence.

“Important week for key appointments in BiH. Three judges on the FBiH Constitutional Court yesterday, and BiH Chief Prosecutor today. Crucial that momentum towards more functional institutions is maintained. The EU will continue to support strengthening rule of law & improving functionality,” EU’s Johann Sattler tweeted.

“We congratulate Milanko Kajganic on his appointment as BiH Chief Prosecutor. The United States will continue to work to ensure the independence of the State Prosecutor's Office (SPO) and BiH's entire criminal justice system. The SPO must operate with integrity and impartiality and on behalf of all citizens of BiH. The chief prosecutor has a crucial role in ensuring these standards are upheld,” the US Embassy tweeted.

On Wednesday the FBiH Parliament adopted the proposal to appoint missing judges to the FBiH Constitutional Court and on Thursday, Milanko Kajganic was named BiH Chief Prosecutor. In his address, Kajganic said he will focus on the back log of war crimes cases as well as the fight against organized crime, pointing out that there will be no place for the employees of BiH law enforcement institutions in contact with perpetrators of organized crime in the country.
