The EU will continue to support the Office of the High Representative (OHR) until Bosnia and Herzegovina fulfils the 5+2 conditions for its closure, EU Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi said Friday.
Answering a question from the MEP and vice-president of the MEP Delegation for relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zeljana Zovko, he stated that the EU contribution amounts to some 45% of the OHR's annual budget and that it is not intended for special activities, adding that the OHR submits six-monthly reports on this to the United Nations Security Council.
In response to a parliamentary question about the spending of money provided by the EU for migration, Varhelyi stated that within the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA III), Bosnia and Herzegovina received € 188.5 million in the period 2021-2023., of which € 39.5 million for migration and border management.
“This financial assistance supports reforms for key aspects of the EU accession process and sustains the green and digital transition,” said Varheyi.
He added that with the support of the EU Delegation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Commission monitors the implementation of EU funds in accordance with EU standards on human rights and the protection of vulnerable persons.
