European Union High Representative for Foreign Policy Josep Borrell welcomed the decision of candidate countries, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, to align their policies with the decision of the EU Council concerning the situation in Belarus and the role of that country in the aggression against Ukraine.

The statement reminds that the Council adopted a decision on February 24, amending an earlier decision and prolonging the restrictive measures against Belarus for one year as well as amending the entries of certain persons subject to restrictive measures.

“The candidate countries North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania, Ukraine and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the EFTA countries Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, members of the European Economic Area align themselves with this Council Decision. They will ensure that their national policies conform to this Council Decision,” the statement added.

It was also emphasised that the EU takes note of this commitment and welcomes it.

Serbia, as an EU candidate country, was not mentioned among the states that aligned its policy on this matter with EU.
