FBiH Energy Minister meets US Energy Department envoy on Southern Gas Interconnection

The meeting highlighted that the FBiH has reached a pivotal juncture, transitioning from legislative groundwork to the actual delivery of the project. Discussions centred on the Draft Law on the Southern Interconnection, which has been put forward for urgent adoption to fast-track the commencement of works.

Minister Lakic emphasised that the Southern Gas Interconnection stands as one of the most significant infrastructure and energy undertakings in BiH. He noted its direct influence on the security of gas supplies, the stability of the energy grid, and broader economic growth.

"Following the adoption of the legal framework, we will move into the implementation phase, which necessitates administrative procedures and robust institutional stability. It is vital to translate the legislation into tangible progress whilst maintaining stability and ensuring there are no disruptions," Lakic stated.

The involvement of US representatives was viewed as a clear signal of support for the venture. Mr Volz confirmed that the United States remains ready to assist BiH in developing its energy sector, stressing that the successful delivery of the project would likely draw further US investment.

Both parties acknowledged the necessity of a stable and predictable legal framework to incentivise investment and accelerate the completion of strategic projects. The next phase involves the signing of an international agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, which is expected to take place in Dubrovnik by the end of the month.
