The Federation (FBiH) entity Minister of Energy, Mining, and Industry, Vedran Lakic, hailed the adoption of the Bill on the Southern Gas Interconnection between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia. Lakic noted that the project transcends simple energy infrastructure, representing a vital component of the long-term stability and security of the Federation of BiH.

"The passage of this legislation through both houses of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH marks a pivotal advancement. It serves as a clear indication of our strategic direction and our capacity to deliver projects of this magnitude," Lakic said.

The Minister noted that backing from the United States underscores the project's significance for wider energy security across the region and Europe. He suggested that the move serves as a robust signal to the international community regarding the FBiH’s reliability as an investment destination, noting an ambition to establish the region as a leader in energy and infrastructure development.

Outlining the forthcoming procedural stages, Lakic confirmed that the law’s publication will be followed by the signing of an intergovernmental agreement with the Republic of Croatia in Dubrovnik. Subsequent steps include the formalisation of a contract between the FBiH Government and the investor, the procurement of necessary permits, and the resolution of land expropriation and property-legal matters prior to the commencement of construction. The stated objective remains the swift transition into the implementation phase to ensure a more resilient energy supply.
