The Prime Minister of Bosnia’s Federation (FBiH) entity, Nermin Niksic, met with the delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission in BiH, led by Alina Iancu on Wednesday to speak about reforms and funding of future projects.
Prime Minister Niksic agreed with the statement of the head of the IMF Mission to BiH, Ianac, that the economic situation in the FBiH is favourable.
The interlocutors agreed that among the priorities of structural reforms, many of them are common for the state and entity level, such as the adoption of a new law on the prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing, as well as tax and public administration reforms. There is also more transparency and better supervision of public companies, green energy, digitization, and of course the continuation of what has been started earlier and the start of new public and attracting private investments.
Niksic disagreed with certain recommendations, and he clearly said that reforms that would go in the direction of increasing bank interest rates and reducing salaries are out of the question.
“We’re a small country, a small economy, with complex arrangements and many problems. We are absolutely open to discussions and agreements with the aim of creating a better environment for our people to return to their homeland, but we are also not in favour of restrictive reforms that would directly lead to a worse standard for citizens,” the Prime Minister said.
